REVIEW: What’s the deal with infrared saunas?

From detoxing to weight loss!

I’m a sucker for anything and everything health & wellness, so checking out the latest Infrared sauna technology at Sydney’s hotspot Flow Revive was right up my alley.

Unlike a traditional sauna, an Infrared sauna doesn’t use steam and relies on heat from the heaters themselves and I really noticed and experienced the difference.

I typically find it difficult to sit inside a traditional sauna for longer than 15-20 minutes. However, in my own zen space at Flow Revive, I was able to properly unwind and enjoy listening to music through the high-tech inbuilt system for the entire forty-five minutes.

Despite its obvious relaxing and meditative benefits, Infrared saunas are raved about for health perks beyond those of a traditional sauna. Below, the top benefits received from using infrared saunas.

Detoxification
The deep penetrating heat of an infrared sauna will make your body sweat, eliminating the toxins from your body. Whether it’s the alcohol you drank at a festive gathering, processed fast food consumed or the toxic fumes roaming the air, an infrared sauna session will help flush these out and purify your skin.

Weight loss
Maintaining a healthy weight is vital for good health and infrared saunas are an easy and simple way to do just that. They also provide many of the same benefits of regular exercise, including cardio. By heating your core temperature to induce sweating, it increases blood flow and heart rate, aiding in weight loss. Infrared saunas also help ease muscle aches and pains to ensure the body is repaired and full of energy to hit the gym or exercise the next day.

Improved Circulation
As mentioned above, heat increases your heart rate which means your circulation will speed up too. Regular use can considerably stimulate blood flow up to as much as twice the normal rate!

Pain Relief
Gone are the days of applying a heat pack to sore muscles to ease the pain. Infrared saunas provide a warm, calm sanctuary to loosen tight muscles and reduce inflammation. If you have had a long day in the office and are experiencing muscle cramps or finished an intense workout, incorporating heat therapy for recovery purposes will help decrease pain and muscle spasms and fasten recovery time.

Relaxation
Everyday stressors that are playing havoc on your mind and body will feel significantly relieved. Saunas promote relaxation by balancing your body’s cortisol level which is your body’s primary stress hormone. The deep heat will relax any muscles tensions allowing you to truly unwind and de-stress.
