Kim Kardashian might not have been the first to wear ’em, but she has definitely brought ’em back! A 90s style staple loved by the likes of Princess Diana and aerobics classes everywhere, the humble bike shorts trend is making a triumphant return thanks to the reality TV queen and fashion maven. The difference this time around? They aren’t reserved for the studio!
With the sold-out Stylerunner Bike Short waitlist continuing to grow (you can join here!), we’re pretty confident this trend is going to be here for a while. So, whether you’re saving ’em for spin or want to hit the street, we’re taking our cues from Kim and co. to make this look go beyond the studio:
1. The “Ooh la la!” look, as seen on Bella Hadid
Channel French girl chic à la Bella Hadid with a monochrome palette and luxe leather accents. Let the shorts take a backseat while your accessories do all the talking then punctuate the look with red lips and sleek sunglasses.
2. The “Biker Chic” look, as seen on Kim Kardashian
This is easily one of our faves out of Kim’s many takes on the bike short trend. Contrary to how it might look, this outfit is actually really simple. Simply pair a slinky knit with your shorts then toughen it up with a studded leather jacket. Finish it off with strappy stilettos in a popping hue for a hint of contrast.
3. The “Preppy Athletica” look, as seen on Hailey Baldwin
Cue: comfort! This look is the perfect for alternative for those that aren’t into the dressed-up take on this 90s essential. Take your lead from Hailey Baldwin and combine cosy knitwear in a matching hue with a luxe leather cross-body, oversized shades and one or two pieces of statement jewellery (think gold hoops or a chunky gold watch). Keep it sporty by teaming with sneakers and you’re good to go.
4. “The Original”, as seen on Princess Diana
If all else fails, go for full 90s nostalgia and aerobics-chic like the one and only, Princess Diana. Mix oversized with hypercolour, chunky sneakers and thick socks and let the #throwback reign.
