Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia may be over but our insta-worthy inspo has far from disappeared. Unlike its more ostentatious counterparts in London, New York, Paris and Milan, the street style at Sydney’s Fashion Week has always had a relaxed yet “I’m actually five trends ahead of you” kind of vibe.
With the final days of MBFWA offering an array of chic street looks worthy of a show unto themselves, our excitement for winter dressing has officially been rejuvenated! This season was all about statement making, be it subtle or standout. Jumpers were draped asymmetrically over one shoulder and tied insouciantly under the other arm, punchy reds punctuated simple getups and kitten heels claimed their comfort-meets-style credit. In the same vein, athleisure harmonised with tailoring, while chunky kicks teamed with floaty, feminine frocks to create contrast.
Lace and ruffles also made respectable cameos, elevating minimalist ensembles or creating maximalist ones. Statement handbags made their presence known outside every show. A surprise hit? The old school bum bag (often worn à la the asymmetrically draped jumper). One of our favourite style sightings? Seeing Nike Air Jordan basketball shorts mixed with ankle boots, a simple sweat and knuckle dusters. Scroll on for this and more in our round-up of the best street looks from MBFWA, part 2:
