When it comes to balancing work, working out and just ‘doing life’, it seems there is one thing we always let slide – Sleep! While we’re no strangers to the negative effects of sleep deprivation on the body and love a few beauty buys for a good night’s sleep, there is one particular prod that has got all the insomniacs of the Internet singing its praises. Enter: Lush Cosmetics’ ‘Sleepy’ body lotion:

Why this body lotion?

Lush Sleep Body Lotion

Made with a calming blend of lavender flower, almonds, Fair Trade organic cocoa butter and jojoba oil, this plush purple cream has the makings of the ultimate bedtime ritual. Filling the beauty blogs with rave reviews, insomniacs everywhere swear by this lotion, claiming that it helps them drift off into a blissful slumber.

While it has not been scientifically proven to cure insomnia, it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility. Based on research from the National Sleep Foundation of America, lavender is known to decrease heart rate and blood pressure, thereby inducing a more relaxed state. In one study, researchers monitored the brain waves of subjects at night and found that those who sniffed lavender before bed had a deeper sleep and felt more energised in the morning.  Originally a limited release for the holidays, the body lotion is now a mainstay in Lush’s collection.
