Rachael Finch talks finding balance, self-love and launching her own activewear line

Rachael Finch has been busy. Having recently launched her very own activewear line, B.O.D By Finch, the fitness entrepreneur and former Miss Universe Australia is hitting the health scene in a big and very stylish way. Already well known for her successful fitness program, BODY by Finch, her ambassadorship with The Westin and collaboration with Melrose Health, the model and mother-of-two is, well, killing it.

Despite her busy schedule, Finch is not one to get caught up in all the hustle. Big on balance, family and self-love (and a fan of a sneaky health hack or two), she knows her stuff when it comes to staying grounded while kicking goals. Read on to learn just how she does it:


What inspired you to start an activewear line? Is this something that you’ve wanted to always do?

Activewear has taken me through so much in life – not just my daily fitness plans. I’ve travelled the world in it, met my husband wearing it, and even gave birth to my two babies in it! The first thing I do when I get out of the shower in the morning is put on my leggings and a singlet. I immediately feel motivated to do something productive, whether that be a workout or not. I love feeling strong, confident and connected to my body. Activewear is a core element in my life and it’s been a dream ever since I was young to create a range – growing up with sport and spending most of my time outdoors. Now, combining my love of fitness, fashion and feeling amazing, is perfect.

What does health mean to you?

It’s about finding happiness and peace in any given moment.

You’re a huge fan of MCT coffees! For women out there who are scared of good fats, what is your advice to them and why have they become a big part of your own diet?

Good fats play a huge role not only on our hormonal activity and cell structure, but on our brains’ performance. Since incorporating a lot more fat into my diet over the last few of years I’ve noticed a total shift in my health. I have more clarity and focus throughout the day, I sleep better, my skin is clearer and I don’t really crave any foods. Overall I’m a lot more balanced. I’m a sucker for information so as always, I continue to read and research new information and find what works for my body.

What does your morning routine look like?

On an ideal morning I would do the following:

6:00 AM – Wake to Violet or Dominic and spend time with cuddles in bed.
6:15 AM – Five minute cold shower, followed by some of our favourite music being turned on.
7:00 AM – Walk Simba and prep kids’ breakfast.
7:30 AM – Hang upside down/ stretch (whatever I need to get my body active) and make my Melrose MCT coffee.
9:00 AM – Morning workout or off to work, depending on day.

How do you find balance as a busy mum?

Ensuring I find time for myself somewhere. Whether that be five minutes for my morning coffee on the balcony, or something more indulgent like a massage every once in a while. As a mum, we are giving so much energy all the time, and my work is also quite demanding, so I make sure I schedule in time where I can gather my thoughts and just be.

What does your workout regime currently look like and how do you keep motivated?

My weekly workout structure changes depending on my work schedule, but generally it follows the same routine as my online program, BODY by Finch (new launch in the new year!). This includes a yoga or stretch session, 2-3 full body circuits and some cardiovascular days to get my heart rate up. I listen to a lot of inspiring music, surround myself with positive people and always write down what I have to be grateful for.

What are some of the projects you’re working on at the moment and what’s next on the to-do list?

The new B.O.D activewear range and the re-launch of our program ‘BODY by Finch’ are my main babies (non-human) at the moment. I am so excited to see B.O.D on women and really hope they love it as much as I loved creating it. My new online wellness program has been such an exciting development – in the new year we will be offering new and exciting workouts and meal plans as well as more meditations and mindfulness tools.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received and what would you pass on to your children?

To always find peace and love in any given moment. Despite what life may throw at us, it’s ultimately up to you how you choose to react.

What it is one thing you wish you knew when first starting a business and what advice do you have for budding entrepreneurs?

There are no set hours when starting your own business. It’s 24 hours a day, seven days a week, plus some more. If you are truly passionate about what you do, you will never work a day in your life. Finding a team that you can trust and keeps you inspired is also key.

We loved your mango cheek and glass trick on Insta! Do you have any other life hacks that you can share?

Removing the seeds from a pomegranate – cut pomegranate in half and face one of the halves down into the palm of your hand over a bowl. Using a wooden spoon, smack the back of the shell and the seeds just pop out! To minimise time putting away cutlery from the dishwasher, stack all forks/ knives/ spoons/ etc in the same compartments so when it’s clean, you spend no time sorting.

Any favourite meal prep tips?

Keep the skin on vegetables and fruit. You minimise time and there is so much goodness in the skin, it’s better for you anyway.

Along with nutrition and exercise, self-love is such an important part of health and wellness. How do you practice this yourself?

I feel like I’m the queen of self-love. I meditate daily, regularly take time out for myself by stretching, taking a bath or getting a massage. It’s so important to nourish our soul which ultimately feeds the rest of us.

With a background in modelling, has there ever been a time where you struggled with self-confidence? If so, how did you overcome this?

Of course! My job is very image-focused and so I have spent many years looking at myself or images of myself for work. Naturally, judgement comes with that. As I get older and learn more about myself and the world, I’m discovering an inner peace with myself that feels so beautiful. I have taught myself the importance of positive self-talk and even though things are never ‘perfect’, it’s those imperfections that I believe to now be perfect.
